CSE has opened a Northeast regional office in Cambridge, Mass., to broaden its efforts to help government agencies, utilities, businesses and residents throughout the region plan and achieve higher sustainable energy and efficiency goals.

Recognized as a national leader in motivating clean energy marketing and adoption, CSE was chosen to administer electric vehicle rebate programs by the Massachusetts Department of Energy Resources in 2014 and the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection earlier this year. According to CSE Executive Director Len Hering, RADM, USN (ret.), this is a period of unprecedented growth for sustainable energy programs.

“There is the leadership, motivation and an existing strong market for clean energy in the Northeast, and we see our role as a transparent, independent partner for agencies, businesses and organizations that want to accelerate action toward their renewable energy goals,” Hering said. “CSE is flexible, innovative and entrepreneurial, and big enough to handle large projects and programs for agencies and organizations throughout the nation, but we also work in smaller areas or on pilot programs to help organizations of any size get under way to a sustainable energy future.”

CSE’s Northeast regional office will be managed by Elizabeth Glynn, a former senior program officer at the Local Initiatives Support Corporation in Boston where Glynn worked extensively to advance energy efficiency and renewable and clean energy generation in the low-income housing sector. She also held related positions with Boston Financial Investment Management and the city of Somerville, Mass.

In addition to the programs in Massachusetts and Connecticut, CSE also manages state and regional programs for the U.S. Department of Energy, California Governor’s Office of Planning and Research and California’s Energy Commission, Public Utilities Commission and Air Resources Board among others.

Established in 1996 and headquartered in San Diego, Calif., CSE is a national nonprofit organization that offers clean energy planning expertise, program development and implementation, and workforce training and education with the goal of transforming energy and transportation markets to cleaner sources around the country.

Since 2000, CSE program efforts have facilitated 44,000 energy projects, yielding $635 million in incentives to consumers, nearly 300 megawatts of distributed generation capacity and more than 8,800 megawatt-hours of energy savings. In 2014, CSE’s operating revenues totaled $144.5 million, including some $110 million distributed as rebate and incentive payments for energy efficiency measures, renewable and distributed energy installations and clean vehicle purchases.
