The Tax-Exempt Customer ( TEC) Program addresses the barriers tax-exempt organizations face when considering energy upgrades and renewable energy installations. Administered by CCSE, TEC provides advice and incentives for energy-efficiency measures proposed by local governments, military and K-12 schools under the SDG&E Energy Savings Bid Program. Originally slated to end in 2008 after two years of operation, TEC was extended through 2009 by the California Public Utilities Commission.
During 2009, CCSE’s Energy Efficiency Engineering team successfully submitted applications for eleven TEC projects for a total of approximately $17 million in project costs, with clients receiving incentives of $1.7 million and achieving energy savings of more than 14 million kWh and 89,000 therms. Among the clients served were the Cajon Valley Union School District, San Diego Zoo, San Diego State University, San Diego Airport, Del Mar fairgrounds, San Diego County and the cities of San Diego and Carlsbad.
A new SDG&E program, called Technical Assistance with Technology Incentives (TA/TI), offers government, commercial and industrial businesses services that lead to equipment funding and cash incentives for reducing energy demand during peak periods. Once qualified, a business or agency is eligible for a free energy audit conducted by CCSE engineers.
