Job Summary
Senior Energy Engineering shall perform energy audits at client facilities and/or buildings, perform energy use analysis and simulations, measurements and verifications, commissioning and retro commissioning and other related engineering and technical efforts. Responsible for development of energy conservation measures for a variety of clients and agencies. Engineer will be required to use energy analysis software tools and be knowledgeable of standards such as California Title 24 commercial and residential 2008 building standards as well as ASHRAE 90.1standards. Engineer shall be responsible for evaluating building HVAC operation and performance. The individual must be thoroughly knowledgeable in HVAC systems operation and must be capable of analyzing HVAC systems including controls to recommend operational improvements and optimization. The individual must be able to work individually and as a team with other engineers to ensure projects are completed profitably and with high technical quality.

- Independently conduct detailed energy audits and perform computer simulation of building (envelop) and its energy loads including lighting, HVAC systems,( central chiller plant systems, packaged units, split systems, single and multi-zone systems, DX systems, air handlers, Heat pumps, etc.,) to determine and recommend energy efficiency improvements and/or optimization.
- Responsible for deciding technical approach, ensuring technical quality, tracking and ensuring customers expectations are met or exceeded through performance.
- Provides technical assistance to program staff as requested.
- Independently Perform Measurement and Verification (M&V) on HVAC systems
- Review and technical work of junior engineers.
- Keep Engineering Manager informed on project status.
- Participate in business development by identifying clients’ needs beyond project scope of work.
- Mentor junior engineers by providing technical guidance when needed.
- Participates in project fieldwork, analysis and report production, using standard resources and custom tools.
- Perform other duties as required.
Essential Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Demonstrated experience and ability to conduct energy audits on simple residential to complex commercial and industrial buildings.
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience in building energy analysis through computer modeling techniques.
- Demonstrated experience and knowledge of building energy computer simulation tools such as; EQUEST, EnergyPro, SPC, DOE2.2, EnergyPlus (experience and knowledge of EQUEST, EnergyPro a MUST- DOE2.2 and EnergyPlus a plus).
- Ability to use Microsoft computer software (Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point) a must.
- Knowledge of AUTOCAD REVIT a plus
- Knowledge and/or experience with Utility Incentive programs a plus
- Knowledge and understanding of Peak Demand reduction desirable
- Building Commissioning and Retro-commissioning experience a plus
Education and/or Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from a four-year college or university. (Mechanical Engineering preferred). Masters degree a plus. Registration as a Professional Engineer, Engineer-in-Training (EIT), and/or Certified Energy Manager (CEM) is desired. Five to seven years experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities is desired. BPI, HERS and/or CEPE certifications a plus.
Computer and/or Technical Skills
Demonstrated high-level of abilities of various computer software programs and fluency in using standard office software packages such as MS Office: Access, Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook.
License, Certificates or Registrations
Valid California Drivers License; insurable in the State of California. Must own a licensed and registered vehicle and be willing to use it for work-related purposes.

- Travel may occasionally be on short notice. Periodic overnight travel may be required.

- Climb ladders, enter equipment rooms, and traverse rooftops to conduct energy audits.
- Some positions require the use of personal or CCSE vehicles on CCSE business. Individuals must be physically capable of operating the vehicles safely, possess a valid driver's license, and have an acceptable driving record. Use of a personal vehicle for CCSE business will be prohibited if the employee is not authorized to drive a CCSE vehicle or if the employee does not have personal insurance coverage.
