Despite the unusual rain and related heavy traffic in San Diego Oct. 4, EV enthusiasts came from near and far to attend the first in a series of statewide workshops focusing on the Clean Vehicle Rebate Project ( CVRP). In addition to learning details about how to qualify for a CVRP rebate of up to a $5,000 from CCSE Transportation Associate Program Manager David Almeida and Program Assistant Kyle Goedert, participants also heard from special guest speakers. SDG&E’s Joel Pointon, manager of the utility’s Electric Transportation Program, discussed EV recharge time of use rates and ECOtality’s Andy Hoskinson talked about the nationwide EV Project. CCSE was pleased to have Mitsubishi’s John Nakamoto on hand to showcase the Mitsubishi iMiEV, the world’s first mass produced EV.

John had a special treat for the handful of die-hard EV fans that stayed after the presentations. Not only did they get an up-close and personal look of the iMiEV, they also got to drive it! These lucky individuals joined a select group of Californians who have driven this exciting new vehicle that won’t be available in the U.S. until next year. Overall they reported being impressed with the iMiEV’s speed, capability and power. If you were not able to make this meeting, there will be other chances to learn more about the CVRP. We currently have similar workshops scheduled for November 10 and 11 in Sacramento and November 23 in San Francisco. For those of you in Orange County, Los Angeles and Fresno, we are also working on securing dates in your area. Check back at this website for details about the upcoming workshops and any updates or new information.
