What’s the best way to tell if BMW is making a visit to CCSE? You’ll find a shiny new BMW Active-E in the parking lot. This Tuesday, BMW and the Transportation Team at CCSE jointly hosted a workshop to cover all things plug-in electric vehicles ( PEV). Over 50 attendees were able to check out (and make a few blissful laps around the block in) BMW’s all-electric Active-E.
Klaus Heller, Senior Advanced Technology Engineer from BMW’s Sustainable Mobility Division, presented an overview of the company’s history, commitment to plug-in electric vehicles and what we can expect to see from BMW in the future in terms of PEVs. Attendees were able to find out the latest about BMW’s vision for future automobile design and technology. Among other things, BMW is working on rolling out new plug-in electric vehicle models, mobility technology, and further alternative fuel research. In addition, the sustainability-conscious will be happy to know that BMW already has plans for stationary second-life application of batteries after their capacity can no longer support PEV needs.
In addition to our guest from BMW, we also heard from Kyle Goedert of CCSE’s Transportation Department. Kyle provided an overview of PEV technology, the differences in charging capabilities, and what incentives are available to PEV owners.
