The Gorskis' Energy-Efficient Model Home
In the Rancho Del Rey community of Chula Vista, Calif., the home of Mike and Paula Gorski has recently received a complete home energy efficiency remodel through the Energy Upgrade California Community Savings Initiative. The home was upgraded with a customized array of exciting energy efficiency upgrades and water-saving measures:
- Cellulose insulation
- New ductwork
- Mechanical ventilation
- Energy-saving LED lighting
- ENERGY STAR appliances
- High-efficiency air conditioning and heating systems
- Zoning System
- Energy Monitoring System
- Tankless water heater
- Recirculation pump
- Low-flow showerheads and faucet aerators
The Gorski’s house served as the first model home of the Community Savings Initiative. Neighbors and other visitors had the opportunity to tour their home and see the upgrades firsthand and talk with the Gorski’s about the benefits they are enjoying after the upgrades were installed. Four open houses were held from July through October 2011. In addition, on a fifth occasion the Gorski’s opened up their home to the U.S. Green Building Council’s Green Homes Sustainability Tour in late October.
