GETUP: Energy Upgrade Career Training

Scholarships for career training are available to a limited number of applicants that demonstrate need due to financial hardship. To be eligible for scholarship:

GETUP focuses on getting unemployed or under-employed workers trained and into the home performance industry.

The GETUP program is three weeks of intensive home performance education and practice, followed by a paid internship with a local home performance contractor.

Overview of Coursework

1. Home Performance Classroom Education:
   One week of home performance classroom sessions
   Monday May 20 - Friday May 24
   9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
   • Introduction to home performance
   • Home Performance Math
   • Diagnostic tools and their uses
   • Blower Door & Duct Blaster demonstration
   • Resume Writing
2. Hands-On Field Training:
   Two-weeks of home performance field practice
   
   • Home performance assessments
   • Health and comfort issues in the home
   • Duct installation, sealing and insulation
   • Attic and crawlspace air sealing and insulation
   • Mechanical ventilation installation
3. Paid Internship with a Participating Contractor:
   Eligibility based on completion of parts one and two
   • Paid at $15/hour
   • With a participating Energy Upgrade California contractor
   • 40 hours real-world experience in the home performance field
   • Opportunities to advance to a home performance career with local contractors

Course length is approximately one month, depending on internship eligibility and duration.

Course fee of $500 includes all materials and training.

• Up to fifteen students will be accepted to the training session beginning on May 20.
• Participants with home construction, contractor and/or green energy experience or training are encouraged to apply.
