Getting a Home Energy Rating is like checking your credit history. You get two important pieces of information – a report and a score. The report describes how your home is using (and potentially wasting) energy and provides recommendations for upgrades. The score allows you to compare your home’s energy performance to other homes with ratings. The lower the score, the more energy efficient the home.

Why get a Home Energy Rating?
- To get a score that allows you to compare your home’s energy performance to other homes
- To help you plan energy upgrades for your home
- To recognize and verify the value of the energy improvements you’ve already made
- To market your home as energy efficient if and when you decide to sell
How do I get a Home Energy Rating?
Contact a Home Energy Rater – an independent advisor who is trained to assess home energy performance. The rater will spend a few hours measuring air leakage in your home’s shell and ducts, checking insulation, testing natural gas appliances for safety problems and collecting other data. He or she will enter this information into energy modeling software to generate your Home Energy Rating.
Is there a Home Energy Rating rebate available?
The California Center for Sustainable Energy is offering $400 rebates for ratings on single family homes in SDG&E territory, while funds last. Only participating raters can access the rebates.
Who are the participating raters?
These Home Energy Raters are certified by CalCERTS and the Building Performance Institute, are insured and can provide access to rebates for Home Energy Ratings. CCSE does not endorse any rater.
