SWH Participation Process

Step 1 SWHPP Become an eligible Contractor/Self Installer or select an eligible Contractor:

  • Become an Eligible Contractor/Self-Installer:
    • Attend the required one day workshop titled “Solar Water Heating-Training for Contractors and Self-Installers”
      • Workshops are offered once a quarter. See our event calendar for next workshop
    • Submit the following documentation (does not apply to self-installers):
      • Contractor Participation Application
      • Workman’s Compensation Insurance Policy
      • Liability Insurance Policy
      • Auto Insurance proof of coverage
      • Standard Warranty offered with all systems
  • Select an Eligible Contractor:
    • Go to our Eligible Contractors List from our SWH home page
    • Review the PDF file labeled “ SWHPP information on completed installations”
    • We recommend getting three bids before deciding to do the installation

Step 2 SWHPPStep 2: Incentive Reservation (pre-installation)

  • Review the Incentive Application Instructions for Contractors
  • Use the SRCC Ratings page and CA Climate Zone Map by Zip Code to calculate the expected incentive on the application
  • Submit the following forms and documentation:
    • Completed SWHPP Application
    • SDG&E Letter of Authorization to act on a Customer’s Behalf (not required for new construction)
    • A copy of the contract with the host customer (Self-installers need to submit proof of system purchase in lieu of the contract)
    • Copy of the required warranty

Step 3 SWHPP Incentive Claim (post-installation)

  • Submit the following forms and documentation:
    • Incentive Claim Form
    • Project Cost Summary
    • Project Cost Affidavit
    • Final city or county permit

CCSE inspects every system for proper performance after receiving the incentive claim form, prior to disbursing incentive payment. Contractors and Self-Installers are responsible for submitting all required documentation.  All forms can be found on our SWHPP Documents page in the Forms folder.
