Food with an environmental mission
With the motto of saving the earth – one pizza at a time – Pizza Fusion, headquartered in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., serves up a menu with fresh, organic ingredients and a commitment to running an ecologically sustainable business.
The San Diego Pizza Fusion in Hillcrest is LEED registered and awaiting certification by the U.S. Green Building Council, according to owner Barry Braden. It is built with reclaimed and sustainable materials, countertops and tables and a bar made of crushed bottles. Food is delivered in a hybrid electric car; customers get discounts for bringing back boxes for recycling; and they use a variety of biodegradable serving and cleaning products.
There are several green restaurants in the region, and CCSE salutes members of the Green Restaurant Association (GRA) and others who work to be more environmentally responsible.
