Reaching for the Tipping Point
New clean energy loans offer great promise

In the sustainable energy business, we often talk about breaking down the market barriers to reach a green tipping point when the momentum for energy efficiency and renewable energy moves beyond trendy to become unstoppable. But there is always an elephant in the room – people still believe energy solutions, for home or business, cost too much. We think there is good reason to believe some California property owners can bag that elephant with property assessed clean energy ( PACE) financing programs. Read more.

California Legislative Update
Energy and green technologies on 2010 agenda

Solar Design Contest

By Jennifer Green
C

California’s energy legislation for 2010 builds on legislation passed successfully in previous sessions. The California Solar Initiative, the state’s landmark bill that mandates the installation of 3,000 megawatts of solar systems, combined with the Renewable Portfolio Standard mandating 20 percent of electricity corporations’ sales from renewable resources by the end of the year provide two lofty green goals for the state. Greening Your World® Monthly Tip

Summer Energy Savings

It’s summer and time to consider how to keep cool without jacking up your electricity costs. It starts at your HVAC system. If equipment is more than 15 years old or not properly maintained, get a mechanical tune-up to reduce energy loss. Next, add ceiling fans. With fans, you can turn up your thermostat by 4 degrees and retain a good comfort level. In drier East County areas, consider an evaporative cooler that generally uses about a quarter of the energy of conventional air conditioners. Be energy wise about keeping cool.
