SAN DIEGO, Calif. (March 31, 2008)— San Diegans can learn about the latest energy-saving technologies and green-building products for home building and remodeling at the Green Expo, the premier green building and remodeling expo at the California Center for Sustainable Energy ( CCSE) in Kearny Mesa from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, April 4.
Participants can check out businesses showcasing eco-friendly products at the Green Expo with exhibits and demonstrations highlighting sustainable building materials, alternative framing options, solar energy products and many more ideas for a green home. Workshops will be presented on the basics of what green building involves and how homeowners can incorporate solar power and water heating into their homes. CCSE energy experts will be on hand to answers questions about energy efficiency and sustainable technologies.
“Our goal is to give homeowners information that will help them navigate through the green-building maze,” said CCSE Program Manager Lauri Walker.
The Green Expo is a part of CCSE’s Rebuild Central, a one-stop, all-in-one resource for survivors of the 2007 San Diego wildfires that supplies unbiased information and expert guidance about how to rebuild their homes more sustainably. At the Green Expo, a panel of residents who lost their homes during the fires will discuss their efforts and successes in rebuilding using green, sustainable building technologies. The majority of those who lost their homes to the 2007 fires have yet to start the rebuilding process because of delays in insurance payments and the downturn in the economy.
“The workshops at CCSE helped me make educated decisions about solar, making it sound reasonable for regular people,” said fire survivor Ellen Norton. “They gave me information I could trust, coming from environmentally minded people who are not selling the products.”
Sponsors of the Green Expo include San Diego Gas & Electric, Baker Electric Solar, California Home Builders, Marrokal Design and Remodeling, Natural Energy USA, Helio Power and Pro-Finish Construction Corp.
The Green Expo will be held at the California Center for Sustainable Energy at 8690 Balboa Avenue, San Diego. For more information, call (858) 244-1177 or visit www.rebuildcental.org.
