SAN DIEGO, Calif. (July 22, 2008) - Learn how to live a greener, more eco-friendly lifestyle at the 2nd annual Sustainability Fair, a free, two-day event set for Thursday, Aug. 6, and Sunday, Aug. 9, at the California Center for Sustainable Energy, 8690 Balboa Avenue in Kearny Mesa.
On Thursday, Aug. 6, the Sustainability Fair will be geared toward small businesses, nonprofit organizations and commercial companies that want to know more about renewable technologies, ways to save on energy costs and how to integrate green products, services and practices into the workplace. Displays and exhibits will be open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
On Sunday, Aug. 9, the Sustainability Fair is targeted to residents, who want to learn about reducing their carbon footprint, lowering energy costs and curbing waste and water consumption. Exhibits and displays will focus on sustainability in the areas of energy efficiency, renewable energy, green building, transportation and climate change. The expo area will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Both days will feature a series of free, public workshops on topics including the green employment marketplace, green job opportunities, energy-efficiency rebates, water conservation and building sustainable communities. The public is invited to join us and check out the displays of living green roofs and other sustainable home concepts. There will also be live demonstrations of fireproof home-building materials, test drives on hybrid bicycles and, for the kids, a chance to drive solar-powered mini-cars. There will be engaging, eco-friendly activities for the whole family.
“Our Sustainability Fair was so popular last year that we are hosting a two-day event this year so that more people can participate,” said Lauri Walker, CCSE special events program manager. “We want to help San Diego to be at the forefront of the battle for energy independence and a healthier environment.”
Sponsors for the Sustainability Fair are Cox Communications, SDG&E and Waste Management. For more information about the Sustainability Fair, contact CCSE at 858-244-1177 or go to www.sustainablecalifornia.org.
