Solar Tour 2010 San Diego

Locations in San Diego and Nationwide on Saturday, Oct. 2

SAN DIEGO, Calif. (September 28, 2010) - A variety of San Diego area homes that use solar power and solar water heating will be open to the public during the National Solar Tour on Saturday, October 2, in conjunction with California’s Solar Energy Month and National Energy Awareness Month.

Presented by the California Center for Sustainable Energy and the San Diego Renewable Energy Society, the self-guided solar homes tour offers about 50 residences showcasing solar photovoltaic systems, solar water heating systems and solar pool heaters throughout the county. Homes will be open from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. A listing of homes on the tour and an interactive map are available on the tour website at www.energycenter.org/solartour.

The tour provides an opportunity to see how solar energy can be used to shrink monthly utility bills and help reduce dependence on fossil fuels. Homeowners will share their experiences with going solar, the installation procedures and the effects on their energy costs. There will be information about solar energy and solar resource toolkits at tour locations. For additional assistance in going solar, visit the California Center for Sustainable Energy website at www.energycenter.org/solar.

The American Solar Energy Society, sponsors of the event nationwide, expect more than 150,000 participants will visit some 5,500 buildings in 3,200 communities across the U.S. during the day. Other participating Southern California cities include Fullerton, Long Beach, Westlake Village and Costa Mesa.
