Green Business Symposium at Cuyamaca College on May 26

SAN DIEGO, Calif. (May 12, 2011) - Despite the enthusiasm for green jobs and the massive investment of federal stimulus dollars, the future of green job growth in the San Diego region remains somewhat unclear. Local jobs experts and business leaders will examine the green marketplace during “Growing Clean, Growing Green, Growing Jobs” from 8:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Thursday, May 26, at Cuyamaca College.

The symposium is free and open to the public with registration beginning at 7:30 a.m. at the Cuyamaca College Theatre for the Performing Arts, 900 Rancho San Diego Parkway, in El Cajon. It is presented by the San Diego Green Workforce Coalition, a partnership with Grossmont-Cuyamaca Community College District, the San Diego Workforce Partnership and the California Center for Sustainable Energy ( CCSE). The symposium is sponsored by a grant from the California Clean Energy Workforce Training Program and is funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009.
The goal of the green business symposium is to identify opportunities for growth, address barriers and develop strategies that will help to create new green jobs and career opportunities.

“There is a tremendous amount of momentum currently behind growing San Diego’s green economy,” said Jack Clark, CCSE’s building retrofit programs manager and symposium panelist. “The continued success of this growth is dependent on an all inclusive approach that seeks innovative solutions and requires considerable investment and participation from all members of the local business community.”

Greg Koch, CEO of Stone Brewing Company, will be the symposium’s keynote speaker, addressing opportunities and challenges facing the local green economy. Also speaking are Philip Jordan, president of Green LMI Consulting, and Jo Marie Diamond, president and CEO of the East County Economic Development Council. There will be two panel discussions with participants from green businesses, staffing agencies, trade associations and educational centers.
