Workshops provide comprehensive instruction leading to clean-energy careers

SAN DIEGO, Calif. (Jan. 8, 2012) - Plumbers, electricians, home contractors and others can learn the skills required to enter the solar water heating industry during workshops offered Jan. 16-19, 2012, by the California Center for Sustainable Energy ( CCSE).

Whether you are new to the workforce, unemployed or changing careers, these workshops will provide the basic skills and knowledge necessary for launching a career in solar water heating as an installer, designer, marketing professional or entrepreneur, according to CCSE.

The center is partnering with National Solar Trainers to help expand the San Diego solar energy workforce by providing training at about 10 percent of its normal cost.

A two-day workshop will be offered Jan. 16-17 for $50, which includes the course workbook and lunches. A four-day workshop, Jan. 16-19, costs $100 and includes an installation lab, course workbook and lunches. The workshops will be held at CCSE in Kearny Mesa.

For further information and registration, go to www.energycenter.org/swhtraining or call (877) 333–7947.

Notable & Quotable

“As individuals, the change can be as simple as replacing traditional light bulbs with efficient fluorescents. In our communities we should require that new buildings include lights that turn off when people leave the room. We should follow the lead of Tokyo and their energy efficient escalators that shut off when they aren't being used. There are literally thousands of things to be done, too few of which we are being asked to do.”

-- U.S. Senator John Kerry (D-Mass.)
