Before Installing Solar, You Need a Home Energy Efficiency Assessment

Energy efficiency is one of the key ways for California to meet its goals for significantly reducing carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gas emissions. It is also the fastest and easiest way to reduce your home energy use.

“Energy efficiency is the unsung hero of state energy policy,” said Andrew McAllister, CCSE director of programs, during a discussion of home energy use on KPBS’s “These Days” radio program. He went on to explain that California’s energy-efficiency standards – for buildings, homes, appliances, lighting and in other areas – have been incredibly important to changing the way we use energy. As a result, the state’s energy consumption has grown more slowly than in other parts of the nation.

Listen to KPBS radio host Maureen Cavanaugh discuss high-tech and low-tech ways that homeowners can re-evaluate their energy use with McAllister, Ted Torre-Bueno of Empowered Energy Solutions and Rachel Laing, spokesperson for the City of San Diego.
