Too extraordinary for most car shows, you can see the fastest production electric car on the market up-close and for free.How fast? 0-60 in 3.7 seconds achieved with a 248 hp, 375 volt AC induction air-cooled electric motor. With a top speed of 125 mph (it’s electronically limited), the Roadster has a range of about 220 miles. You won’t have to wait too long for that charge up. A custom microprocessor-controlled, lithium-ion battery with 6,831 individual cells will power to full in as little as 3.5 hours. Just long enough to enjoy the scenery and have lunch in Santa Barbara on your ride up the PCH to Monterey.
If you’re planning on bringing your check book to Street Smart, you’ll need to have about $110,000 for this top performer—but you do qualify for a $7.500 federal tax credit.
