Streamlining EV Charging with Collaboratev

Soon, EV drivers will be able to charge at many charging stations, regardless of what service they have signed up for.

Collaboratev is a joint venture by ECOtality and ChargePoint that will make charging for PEV drivers easy, allowing payment for their electricity at either type of station. These two companies are essentially creating a “vendor agnostic” system for usage and payments.

New Financial Incentives for EVs

Earlier this month, Assemblyman Phil Ting of District 19 introduced a piece of legislation that would allow Electric Vehicle (EV) and plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV) purchasers an exemption from state sales tax and vehicle license fee.

This financial incentive will be in effect for just a year: from January 1, 2014 to January 1, 2015, which is just about the same time that EV drivers’ privileged access on High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) lanes will come to an end. But, if it’s any consolation, the legislation also contains a directive to allow all EVs and HEVs to park for free in state of California parking lots and facilities.

Ting strongly believes that financial incentives are the way to persuade consumers to buy an EV. He may have a point. While HOV access was really nice, not paying state sales tax or vehicle license fees seems even nicer.
