Urban Forestry Groups
The San Diego Regional Urban Forest Council (SDRUFC) is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting urban forestry to improve communities. We achieve this through programs to improve air quality, conserve and protect water, improve quality of life and contribute beauty to California.
These initiatives include:
- advocacy and support for public policy and government action that supports holistic ecosystems and encourages the development of policies and practices to sustain such systems;
- creation of educational materials that offer research, professional expertise and contemporary knowledge to empower California residents to participate actively in urban forestation;
- development and support for successful local, regional and state-wide urban forestry programs, projects and organizations.
We coordinate educational workshops, host an annual conference, run a certified urban forestry program, support seven regional councils, and manage the United Voices for Healthier Communities programs.
The mission of SDRUFC is to optimize the community and urban forests in the San Diego region and achieve their sustainability through planning, education and coordination. Offering training, advocacy and commitment, we seek to serve and inspire residents and businesses to sustain a healthy regional ecosystem.
The SDRUFC is very active in the San Diego Region. SDRUFC played a major role in the 2010 United Voices Healthy CommuniTrees program in which nearly 1,000 trees were planted in our region in a single day. We host multiple arbor day activities and many of our members are available for private or public speaking events in your communty.
We host bimonthly meetings focusing on networking regional professionals and every meeting has an educational presentation. There is a $20.00 fee to attend meetings. This fee includes lunch and CEU's and helps to fund future programs for the council. Speaker and presenter is from 11:00 to noon, Business portion of meeting is from Noon to 1:30. Meeting agendas will be posted.

The mission statement of the Professional Tree Care Association (PTCA) "is to improve our community's quality of life by making our urban forest safer and more beautiful through education and proper tree care."
The PTCA focuses mainly on local arborists and members of the Association, but also strives to educate the public with articles, talks and display booths dealing with proper tree care.
The San Diego chapter of the PTCA meets monthly. Check the meeting web page for date, time and topic. Also, if not a member and the topic is of interest, contact them via email below to verify if you can attend.
