Learn how to live a greener, more eco-friendly lifestyle at CCSE’s 2nd annual Sustainability Fair, a free, two-day event set for Thursday, Aug. 6, and Sunday, Aug. 9. On Thursday, Aug. 6, the Sustainability Fair is geared toward small businesses, nonprofit organizations and commercial companies that want to know more about renewable technologies, ways to save on energy costs and how to integrate green products, services and practices into the workplace. TV news crews and newspaper journalists gathered at San Diego’s Environment Services offices in Kearny Mesa on July 16 as Mayor Jerry Sanders announced a report ranking San Diego as the number one solar city in California. Read more. Going Green for Affordable Housing
More than 100 affordable housing developers, housing advocates and green contractors from throughout San Diego County gathered at CCSE on July 16 for a day-long conference on adopting solar energy and energy efficiency for low-income housing. Read more. Fighting Climate Change with Economics
The expansion of carbon trading markets offers great promise for reducing the impacts of global warming from human-produced greenhouse gas emissions, according to Andrea Cook, CCSE’s climate change program manager. Read more. Community Energy Action Heroes
With more than 700 vehicles in San Diego County driving some 6 million miles each year, Cox San Diego has implemented a number of fleet fuel-saving initiatives to reduce the number of miles they log and improve fuel mileage. Their goals are to save money, use less fossil fuel and help reduce air pollution by taking some simple steps and changing driving habits as part of their Cox Conserves program. Read more. CCSE has produced “Go Solar Now,” a seven-minute informational video for the California Solar Initiative, with the goal of making solar technologies more accessible to residents. The program explains how solar PV and water heating systems work, outlines the benefits of going solar, gives the step-by-step how-tos and includes testimonials from homeowners and businesses that have gone solar.

CCSE’s 2008 Annual Report, titled Cultivating Change, Creating Impacts, is now available online.
