California is the ninth largest emitter of carbon dioxide in the world and a full third of that carbon dioxide comes from fossil fuel-burning vehicles. CCSE is committed to educating Californians on the benefits of alternative fuel vehicles, while providing financial rebates through programs that promote a sustainable energy future.

The Clean Vehicle Rebate Project is funded by the California Environmental Protection Agency’s Air Resources Board ( ARB) and administered statewide by the California Center for Sustainable Energy ( CCSE). A total of $5 million was appropriated from the ARB’s Air Quality Improvement Program for the project to promote the use and production of alternative fuel vehicles. The program was created by Assembly Bill 118 that was signed by Governor Schwarzenegger in October 2007 and that funds air quality improvement projects through 2015.

CCSE also invites the public to attend the Street Smart event to learn about alternative transportation options. At Street Smart, attendees have the opportunity to check out the latest hybrid vehicles, electric cars, scooters and other alternative fuel vehicles displayed throughout the green transportation fair. Workshops and vendors provide valuable education on topics such as hyper-miling, alternate transit and efficient vehicle operation at this annual outreach event.

The Fueling Alternatives Rebate program, funded by the California Air Resources Board and administered by CCSE until 2009, provided rebates of up to $5,000 for consumers who purchase or lease new eligible modes of transportation, such as neighborhood electric, electric and compressed natural gas vehicles.
