Renewable Electric Vehicle (REV) Program

Renewable Electric Vehicle (REV) Program

For the majority of Americans, driving a car is the single largest impact they have on the environment.  Air pollution, greenhouse gas emissions and inefficient, excessive consumption of a non-renewable energy source are all products of America's love affair with the automobile.

Owning an electric car, however, reduces all of these impacts, and represents the greenest consumer choice that most Americans may ever make.  Four-times as efficient as a gasoline car with zero tailpipe emissions, electric cars driven in California are also fueled with 20% renewable energy thanks to the state's electricity grid (the largest source of energy for California's electric cars is natural gas, which is cleaner and more efficient than gasoline used in cars and is a domestically-produced fuel).

For electric vehicle owners who want to make their cars even cleaner, and who want to fuel their cars with up to 100% pollution-free, renewable energy, the California Center for Sustainable Energy offers the Renewable Electric Vehicle Program (REV) Program.

The REV Program provides resources to:

- individual electric vehicle owners

- property owners that host electric vehicle charging stations

These resources include: residential solar systems for electric vehicles, energy efficiency programs for homes and businesses, and renewable energy programs for electric vehicle charging.

"The nation's aging electromechanical electric grid cannot keep pace with innovations in the digital information and telecommunications network....Power outages and power quality disturbances cost the economy billions of dollars annually. America needs an electric superhighway to support our information superhighway."
