Building Performance-HVAC Commissioning Field Course
The class will begin by reviewing the performance factors and the related design and installation details in the classroom. Next, we will work in the field evaluating a recently installed HVAC system. Participants will use building performance test equipment to quantify each performance factor and adjust or commission the system to optimize each factor. When completed the students will measure the delivered btu capacity of the installed system and calculate a field EER for the system.
In addition to reviewing the conditioning system participants will review the design and installation parameters for residential ventilation systems. Participants will test and commission the installed ventilation systems, as well.
The Performance factors are:
1. Duct Leakage
2. Duct Conduction
3. System Airflow
4. Room by Room Airflow
5. Refrigerant Charge
6. System Efficiency/Capacity
The commissioned system will have an annual operating cost between 5 and 15 cents per square foot, operate at a near silent sound level (less than 25 db), and maintain an indoor temperature within three degrees of set point throughout the house while operating. The commissioned system will deliver 85% or more of its btu capacity to the home.
