Virtual Net Energy Metering for Multi-tenant and Multi-metered Properties
In July 2011, the California Energy Commission issued a Decision which modified the California Solar Initiative program and directed the IOUs to modify their tariffs to expand VNM to allow any residential, commercial or industrial multi-tenant or multi-meter property to receive the benefits of net energy metering with the limitation that sharing of bill credits can only occur for accounts served by a single Service Delivery Point (“SDP”). Prior to the Decision, VNM was limited to properties that participate in the Multifamily Affordable Solar Housing (MASH) or New Solar Homes Partnership (NSHP) affordable housing programs.
