Event Coordinator, Clean Transportation

Location: Berkeley, CA

Center for Sustainable Energy (CSE) is an independent, mission-driven nonprofit organization with offices in San Diego, Berkeley, Los Angeles and Boston. We accelerate the adoption of clean and efficient energy solutions via program administration, technical assistance, policy innovation, and other forms of market facilitation. We are uniquely positioned and engaged with a variety of stakeholders and market actors, including policy-makers, state and federal agencies, regional and local governments, utilities, business and civic leaders, and individuals. Our areas of focus include distributed energy resources (renewable energy, energy efficiency, energy storage, fuel cells, combined heat and power) and clean transportation.

Basic Functions:

We are looking for an event marketing rock star to represent the Center for Sustainable Energy’s (CSE) Clean Transportation programs at community events throughout Northern California. Under supervision of the Communications and Marketing Team Sr. Marketing Manager, this role will be responsible primarily for building awareness and understanding of the Clean Vehicle Rebate Project and educating target audiences about additional incentives and benefits of clean vehicle ownership.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Lead outreach efforts for the Clean Transportation team across designated territory, including but not limited to events and dealership outreach
  • Represent CSE and Clean Transportation programs while performing outreach efforts at approved community events
  • Coordinate needs for event participation, including negotiating booth location and cost with event organizers, contract management, logistics (transporting booth to/from event locations, and setting up/tearing down booth), and any other needs that may be required
  • Oversee inventory of all outreach materials, monitor supplies (re-ordering and repairing as needed), and organization of those items (quality assurance)
  • Research opportunities and events to participate in (required to develop an understanding of the landscape of assigned areas to identify where efforts should be focused)
  • Uphold CSE and Clean Transportation program branding standards with regards to materials to be used at events
  • Assist with creating new outreach tools, handouts and materials as needed to adapt to local markets
  • Create communications that reinforce key outreach messaging and encourages event attendees to take action
  • Acquire visitor email address to send additional program information and maintain engagement.
  • When needed, help administer visitor surveys aimed to increase CSE understanding of target audiences
  • Produce live/on the ground social media posts that follow CSE social media standards
  • Execute effective follow up techniques with contacts made at events
  • Follow up with email marketing to event attendees who’s email addresses were collected at the event
  • Increase website traffic and create extended reach opportunities because of proper event follow up communications
  • Address frequently asked questions, local issues, and/or provide other information that was brought up at specific events 
  • Track event outreach metrics (i.e. event attendance, volume of collateral distributed, number of quality conversations) for internal/external reporting purposes
  • Lead dealership education efforts through in-person visits and coordination of training sessions
  • Identify key accounts and build/maintain relationships with dealerships in assigned territory
  • Salesforce account management
  • Help in the development of new, regional partnerships that will assist in meeting program goals
  • Setup meetings and ensure appropriate follow up
  • Assistance in maintaining relationships with partners, ensuring they have materials they need to disseminate to their respective audience/customers

The ideal candidate:

  • Required: Associate of Arts degree in Marketing/Communications or Environmental Science, Bachelor's degree preferred
  • 2-3 years of related experience
  • Excellent customer service, interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, and the ability to build strong professional relationships over the phone and in person
  • Self-starter with strong multitasking ability, attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Able to follow through on assignments and projects within required budgets and deadlines
  • Familiarity with federal and California regulations related to transportation, energy, and air quality a plus
  • Understanding of the electric vehicle market a plus but not required
  • Excellent time and stress management skills
  • Strong critical thinking and problem solving skills
  • Strong conflict management skills
  • A passion for sustainable energy
  • Ability to work and thrive in a fast-paced environment, with shifting priorities
  • High energy with the stamina necessary to coordinate events with accuracy under pressure
  • Skilled at both leadership and relationship building
  • Flexibility with hours and schedule to accommodate events and workload
  • Working proficiency with Spanish preferred but not required
  • Demonstrated fluency in using standard office software packages (MS Office: Access, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook)
