Electric Utility Service Areas

This layer identifies electric utility service areas by name and the type of ownership. The California service areas layer can be categorized as one of the following:

  • Combination
  • Cooperative
  • Investor-owned
  • Publicly-owned
  • Special district
  • Tribal

The national electrical service areas are categorized by ownership and defined as the following:

  • Cooperative
  • Federal
  • Investor-owned
  • Municipal
  • Municipal marketing authority
  • Political subdivision
  • State
  • Wholesale power market
  • Combination
