The position will act as an enabler of CSE programs through the provision of data and evidence-based insights to inform program improvement, policymaking, and public and private strategic planning. The position will work under the Director of Strategic Research and Analytics with the guidance and direction of Senior Account Managers as well as the Principal Advisors.

  • Design research paradigms to best analyze data considering requests from internal and external clients including program managers, senior management, marketing and outreach departments, and others. The ideal candidate will have significant experience designing a research agenda and developing the individual studies that comprise that agenda. This candidate will understand how to conduct sound research with generalizable, reliable, and valid findings. 
  • Execute various mixed methods models, to identify new, interesting, and executable insights through the design and execution of a variety research and analytics. The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to process and clean data, test data (i.e. for heteroscedasticity, etc), summarize and visualize the data, and ultimately fit models to data to better understand, design, and implement programs  
  • Effectively communicate findings to relevant stakeholders through professional, clear, and concise presentations, reports (while non-academic in nature, they should be executed with the same level of academic rigor), and visualization of the data and results of any analyses. The ideal candidate can produce advanced visualizations that are accurate, audience-specific, and most importantly valid.

  • Extensive and demonstratable training in and experience with quantitative methods with the ability to independently execute a research agenda. The successful candidate should be an expert R or Python user.

  • Ability to work independently and produce high-quality, refined work products 
  • Demonstrated ability to produce high quality, scientifically sounds, academic research including comprehensive literature reviews, research designs, visualizations, and conclusions, while identifying limitations of the research and next steps. 
  • Demonstrated ability to produce quick insights to support proposals and or external marketing efforts. The successful candidate should thrive in a fast-paced environment. You must be able to very quickly produce sound data insights with accompanying visualizations.  
  • Ability to write well and communicate complex topics effectively for a wide variety of stakeholders, including state-agency clients.

  • This candidate should be comfortable leading research efforts with a team of support analysts and departmental project-management staff individuals from throughout the CSE organization, including junior analysts to the President of CSE. The successful candidate will have a demonstrated ability to manage individual evaluations including timeliness of deliverables and subtasks, as well as, providing less senior researchers with research guidance and direction.

The Center for Sustainable Energy (CSE) is seeking a data scientist who will support our product, sales, leadership and marketing teams with insights gained from analyzing extensive company data. The ideal candidate is adept at using large data modeling techniques to find opportunities for product and process optimization and to test the effectiveness of different courses of action. They must have strong experience developing/designing databases, using a variety of data mining/data analysis methods, using a variety of data tools, building and implementing models, using/creating algorithms and creating/running simulations.   They must have a proven ability to drive business results with their data-based insights. They must be comfortable working with a wide range of stakeholders and functional teams. The right candidate will have a passion for discovering solutions hidden in large data sets and working with stakeholders to improve business outcomes.  The research will focus on the energy space, primarily electric vehicles, electric vehicle infrastructure, and distributed energy resources,  

The position will work under the Director of Strategic Research and Analytics.  The Strategic Research and Analytics team is tasked with producing high quality, reliable research for business development and program optimization.  The team often needs to work quickly and under significant time constraints, the ideal candidate should be comfortable with this environment.   

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

SKILLS

  • Develop, design, and manage databases to support the evaluation work of the Strategic Research and Analytics team.  The successful candidate will work with a variety of stakeholders, both internal and external, to identify existing and new data sources, while assessing the effectiveness and accuracy of the data, as well as opportunities to leverage that data to drive business solutions and success.
  • Mine and analyze data to drive optimization and improvement of product development, marketing, and business strategies, as well as portfolio and program level evaluation.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required

  • Strong problem-solving skills with an emphasis on product development.
  • Experience using statistical computer languages (R, Python, SLQ, etc.) to manipulate data and draw insights from large data sets.
  • Experience working with and creating data architectures.
  • Knowledge of a variety of machine learning techniques (clustering, decision tree learning, artificial neural networks, etc.) and their real-world advantages/drawbacks.
  • Knowledge of advanced statistical techniques and concepts (regression, properties of distributions, statistical tests and proper usage, etc.) and experience with applications.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for coordinating across teams.
  • A drive to learn and master new technologies and techniques.
  • We’re looking for a PhD level quant with 7+ years of experience manipulating data sets and building statistical models.  and familiar with the following software/tools:
    • Coding knowledge and experience with several languages: C, C++, Java, JavaScript, etc.
    • Knowledge and experience in statistical and data mining techniques: GLM/Regression, Random Forest, Boosting, Trees, text mining, social network analysis, etc.
    • Experience querying databases and using statistical computer languages: R, Python, SLQ, etc.
    • Experience creating and using advanced machine learning algorithms and statistics: regression, simulation, scenario analysis, modeling, clustering, decision trees, neural networks, etc.
    • Experience analyzing data from 3rd party providers: Google Analytics, Site Catalyst, Coremetrics, Adwords, Crimson Hexagon, Facebook Insights, etc.

  • Process clean vehicle rebate applications using a customized Salesforce.com CRM system and other computer systems
  • Follow detailed, standard practices and operating procedures to review rebate applications and varied, complex supporting documents for accuracy and completeness
  • Make quick, consistent decisions following detailed program terms and conditions to determine rebate applicant eligibility
  • Provide technical support to applicants for the online application and document submission processes
  • Explain complex project requirements to applicants on the phone and in writing
  • Use good judgment when speaking with applicants about non-public personal information
  • Handle highly-sensitive documents that contain non-public personal information, following mandatory security processes
  • Use template-based and customized emails to communicate professionally and accurately with rebate applicants
  • Prepare and mail rebate checks to rebate applicants
  • Work effectively with fellow team members to complete rebate processing tasks, assisting others when opportunities arise
  • Identify issues which may require deviation from standard practices and work with team leads to implement solutions
  • Communicate with the CVRP operations team leads and operations managers to provide status updates, report concerns, and suggest solutions and improvements
  • Organize, scan, file, and store hardcopy rebate applications
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

  • 7+ yrs experience designing and developing complex Salesforce solutions
  • Analyze needs and architect solutions using traditional and/or agile development methodologies
  • Design solutions that leverage Salesforce best practices and introduce new technologies when necessary
  • Translate business requirements into well-architected solutions that best leverage the Salesforce platform
  • Develop comprehensive configuration designs and architectural documentation to support the successful implementation of projects
  • Lead a team of Salesforce developers in complex custom developments of entire applications using Apex coding
  • Identify and recommend salesforce.com based solutions, integration points and related implementation architecture for business usage improvements, scalability and performance
  • Integrate Salesforce with other applications using web services and API’s

Essential Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Proven knowledge and expertise with complex custom development using Apex, with Lightning Component Development, the Salesforce clouds, Salesforce Communities, API and web services integrations is required.  A plus would be experienced with Salesforce involving integrated CMS (ie. Drupal) and document storage (ie. Box) solutions. Must have excellent written/verbal communication skills, attention to detail and a commitment to quality.  Experience with Communities and Marketo Marketing Integration is a plus.

 

Required Qualifications:

7+ years of Apex, Visualforce and Salesforce application design and development experience  • 2+ years of Lighting Framework development experience  • Solid knowledge and experience in Object-Oriented Design and Programming techniques.  • Expertise in Apex development, including in Trigger Frameworks, TDTM, and governor limits  • Significant experience with Model View Controller, Custom API’s, Web Services and Rest API’s
