Center for Sustainable Energy is administering an $85 million rebate program for the Commonwealth Edison Company (ComEd) to accelerate the transition of fleets to zero-emission commercial trucks and buses across northern Illinois.
The Business & Public Sector EV Program incentivizes the purchase and lease of new electric vehicles (EVs), including light-, medium- and heavy-duty trucks and school and transit buses for commercial, industrial and public agency uses. Rebates range from $5,000 to $180,000. The higher rebate amounts are available for fleets located in or serving state-designated low-income and equity investment eligible communities — at least 50% of program funding will be directed to these areas.
Because commercial vehicles, including trucks and buses, are often acquired through a manufacturer or a broker rather than a dealership, CSE designed the rebate as a two-step process that involves the applicant working with the supplier to first secure a voucher reservation for a specific vehicle and, upon program approval, redeeming the voucher at the point of sale. This minimizes hand-offs while removing financial obstacles for fleet managers. A post-purchase rebate option for new and used vehicles will also be available.
