CSE adds 8th state to EV rebate portfolio

To accelerate greater electric vehicle adoption, Delaware has selected the Center for Sustainable Energy (CSE) as the new administrator of the state’s Clean Vehicle Rebate Program (CVRP) that provides cash incentives for purchasing and leasing new light-duty electric vehicles.

CVRP is a program of the Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control (DNREC) and has been in place since July 2015. The program is part of the state’s commitment to innovation in the transportation sector, reducing greenhouse gas emissions and improving the state’s air quality.

“As new and existing manufacturers introduce more electric vehicles to their lineups, more consumers are making the switch,” Delaware Gov. John Carney said in a previous release. “Our Clean Transportation Incentive Program is helping to make the transition more affordable for more Delawareans.”

CSE is a national nonprofit that administers consumer rebate initiatives for electric vehicles through programs valued at more than $1.3 billion. For Delaware, CSE’s role encompasses managing operations, application processing, customer support, dealer education and marketing.

"What DNREC has achieved on their own with this program since 2015 is remarkable,” said Brian Jones, CSE Director of U.S. Transportation Programs. “We are honored to help take this program to the next level, making it easier for Delawareans to switch to electric vehicles and helping the state achieve its ambitious goals for improved air quality and reduced greenhouse gas emissions.”

Currently, $2 million a year is available for CVRP from Delaware’s participation in the 12-state Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative. The state offers individuals and businesses $2,500 for new battery electric vehicles and $1,000 for plug-in hybrid electric vehicles. The new version of CVRP is anticipated to be ready for applications in April 2023 and offer the same rebates amounts.

Delaware is the eighth state to select CSE as clean transportation incentive program managers, joining California, Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Oregon and Vermont. Since 2010, CSE has delivered nearly 600,000 electric vehicle incentives.
